US Post Office Insures Bitcoin Transaction

US Post Office Insures Bitcoin Transaction

In the course of my www.Beefjerky.com business, I mailed a package of beef jerky with USPS Priority Mail on 27 Nov. After a week or so, the customer reported it not delivered. I looked at the tracking, and sure enough it got lost somewhere along the way, a long way before the delivery location.

Since the customer had paid with Bitcoin, and I knew the Post office would take a fair while to settle the claim, I sent the customer a replacement package for the lost beef jerky, so he would have it before Christmas. It arrived safely to him.

I waited the required 15 days before filing the claim at the Post Office. They wanted proof of value for the lost package. I provided the email exchanges between Beefjerky.com and the bitcoin customer, showing that BTC was paid, and its corresponding USD $73.85 value, at the time of the order.

Monday, there was a check in my mailbox from the Post Office for $50.00, plus the postage cost. Fifty dollars is the included insurance amount with Priority Mail, which was the best insurance pay-out I was hoping for.

I was pleased that the US Post Office recognized Bitcoin as an actual currency, with the exchange rate to USD I gave the customer. Amazed and pleased.

but is still yet to be confirmed.
